Every single registered domain name has no less than 2 Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain to the servers of a particular hosting company. In this way, you've got both your site and your emails handled by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, for example A and MX. The first one reveals which server deals with the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, when you enter a domain address in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of a different service provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having separate records for the site and the emails means you may have your website and your emails with 2 different providers if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting account from our company and you wish to direct either your website or your emails to another company, it is going to take you literally just two mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of every record that you change or create will not take more than a few hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which indicates how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated plans we offer, you will have 100 % control over the records of all domain addresses and subdomains which you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each one of them has from the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and changing any record takes as little as a couple of mouse clicks. If you choose to switch your web or e-mail hosting provider, you can update the required record and direct your domain name to the other company for one of the services, as you still keep using the other one through us. You may also keep the main domain address here, while you change the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you are modifying the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard 2 we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for every single one.
